Hey everyone, my name’s Mike Madden and as you have probably already guessed, I’m a die-hard Chiefs fan! Now, I could bore you with my introduction, but this IS a blog about the Chiefs isn’t it? So, without further ado……
Earlier today the Chiefs completed yet another day of Chiefs OTAs. As always, there were a number of topics stirring. How did all the rookies do? Is there any more information about what Dwayne Bowe blabbered about? Is Dwayne Bowe still dropping every ball that comes his way? All very popular topics, and this one is no less popular than those previously mentioned!
Derrick Johnson was made a backup last season, and it was widely known and widely discussed throughout the football world. Why would you make one of the flashiest play makers on the team a backup? Of course, everyone stopped that discussion after his incredible game against the Broncos in the last game of the season, assuming he’d be a shoo in. Not so fast! It appears he’s STILL not running with the first team! How could that be? The more I think about, it becomes more and more obvious.
The more I look at Derrick Johnson, the more it looks like he does indeed have enormous talent, he just really doesn’t care to me. Once in awhile, he’ll do something incredible that makes your jaw drop, but then you wonder why we get gashed on defense so badly, especially against the run. It’s simple, Derrick Johnson is constantly out of position and doesn’t fight off blocks well at all. Overall, it really does make him a liability. He doesn’t have that killer instinct to fight on every play til the whistle and lacks the focus to be where he needs to be.
Earlier, I said that he was a very flashy player. I think it’s rather apparent that Haley and Pioli really aren’t looking for “flashy” players. They want a guy who is steady and consistent, and can simply do his job. Anything more is a bonus. Derrick Johnson simply doesn’t have the killer instinct to do that at this time. As Chiefs fans, let’s hope he can get it and quick.

Great article, you have pointed out a few good points, I as well believe this is a really wonderful website.
